Fifteen year-old Rani* is one of Papua New Guinea’s 4.8 million people at risk of death from dirty water. Several times each day she walks twenty minutes over the hill to a well on the other side of her community to fill her jerry can with water.  Weighing about 18 kilos when full, Rani uses a cloth attached to her forehead to help bear the weight on the journey home.

Because her easiest choice is often an unsafe water source, Rani and her family are at risk of becoming one of the 60 people who die every hour of every day because of dirty water.

How your support helps

Thanks to your support, our partners in Papua New Guinea are championing preventative health education on water, sanitation and hygiene. Their community-wide approach is reducing disease and saving lives!

We’re also supporting our partners to access clean water and improve sanitation through construction of toilet blocks, installation of water tanks and maintenance of gravity-fed water systems. Our partners are enabling people to choose clean water and good health!

Last year we were able to help provide life-saving water and sanitation access to more than 5,800 people in New Guinea, West Timor, Bali and Zimbabwe.
